A change of office scenery, anyone?

from Idealog

Dreaming of working at the beach? Imagine working under a sunny sky – the next best thing created by researchers at the Fraunhofe Institute in Germany.

They've developed an innovative luminous ceiling, using a combination of LEDs to imitate the open sky and create the effect of clouds drifting by.

The ceiling consists of tiles 50cm square, each containing an LED board, which in turn is made up of 288 LEDs. A diffuser film is attached 30cm beneath the LEDs to create homogenous lighting. A combination of red, blue, green and white LEDs made it possible to generate the 16 million colours needed to create a realistic virtual sky.

research question v?

Research Title
Practice based investigation into children's experience of an interactive socially connected play environment within a pediatric healthcare context.

Can the ability of children and their families to interact with healthcare environments in a playful and connected manner contribute to affecting anxiety and the quality of their healthcare experience?
This research will explore how people relate to each other and their spaces within a children's healthcare context.
Question: Can a responsive play environment, imbedded with situated technologies, that is (cooperatively) altered affect children’s experiences of healthcare environments?

considering heterotopia..

Heterotopia is a concept in human geography elaborated by philosopher Michel Foucault to describe places and spaces that function in non-hegemonic conditions. These are spaces of otherness, which are neither here nor there, that are simultaneously physical and mental, such as the space of a phone call or the moment when you see yourself in the mirror.
